Paper producer saves $1.6m with ISO 50001

PT Indah Kiat Pulp & Paper (IKPP), located in SerpongTangerang, Indonesia, is a joint venture between Indonesian and Taiwan companies. The company specialises in the production of coloured paper grades and is one of the world’s largest in this sector.

In 2009, the Indonesian Government issued a regulation about energy conservation (Government Regulation No. 70/2009) stating that users of energy equal to or more than 6000 Ton Oil Equivalent per year must implement energy conservation through energy management. Therefore, IKPP Tangerang committed to comply by implementing an energy management system (EnMS) ISO 50001.

After gaining accredited certification too ISO 50001, the company’s energy performance improved by 15.2 %. This translated to annual energy cost savings of USD$1.6 million.
