Case Study
The Chinese government encourages SMEs to obtain CNAS-accredited QMS certification
To promote the specialized, refined, distinctive, and innovative development of small and medium enterprises (SMEs), which are also known as “Specialized and New” enterprises, in June 2024, relevant Chinese government departments issued the “Notice on Further Supporting High-Quality Development of Specialized and New SMEs.” This policy primarily focuses on key industrial chains, strategic emerging industries, and future industries, adopting various measures to support “Little Giant” enterprises – companies that, despite their small size, have significant influence and competitive advantages in niche markets – to create new growth drivers, tackle new technologies, develop new products, and strengthen industrial chain supporting capabilities (known as “Three News and One Strong”).
In August 2024, relevant Chinese government departments further introduced the “Guidelines for Management Enhancement of Industrial SMEs (Trial),” encouraging SMEs, especially “Little Giant” enterprises, to obtain quality management system certification accredited by the China National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment (CNAS) as an important measure to strengthen quality management and enhance production management capabilities. The Guidelines direct SMEs to further standardize management, reduce costs and increase efficiency, enhance market competitiveness, and strengthen social trust through certification and accreditation, empowering the cultivation of specialized and new SMEs.
