Cable manufacturer saves R1.5 million per year

Aberdare Cables, a member of the Powertech Group, is an African cable manufacturer. The company manufactures an extensive range of electrical cables for application in power generation, transmission and distribution; infrastructure (rail, ports, and airports); petrochemical; mining as well as building and construction. The company decided to implement an Energy Management System at its Standford Road site is situated in Port Elizabeth.

Accredited certification to ISO 50001 has benefited the Standford Road site facility to reduce energy usage by 10%. Initiatives implemented, such as weekend shutdowns, oven timers, demand controllers and changing much of lighting throughout the plant have helped save the company more than R 1.5 million (USD 112,000) per year.
