ISO 14001 reduces waste and improves environmental performance in US manufacturing organisations

Research conducted on American manufacturing organisations demonstrates that ISO 14001 certification leads to lower waste rates when compared with companies that do not have ISO 14001 certification. The research showed that ISO 14001 drives tangible improvements in a companies environmental performance and the more waste that is generated, the higher the impact of the certification. The report concluded that “companies also could be able, through this research, to justify the expenses of efforts associated with ISO 14001” (Franchetti, M, 2011.
