US Defence Contractor saves $1m per year with ISO 50001

General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems (GD-OTS) worked with the U.S. Department of Energy’s Advanced Manufacturing Office to implement an energy management system (EnMS) at a federal ammunition plant in Scranton, Pennsylvania. GD-OTS staff members set an energy baseline and assessed opportunities to save energy in the plant’s significant energy-using systems.

By implementing the recommended projects and the EnMS in compliance with ISO 50001 and Superior Energy Performance (SEP), GD-OTS staff improved energy performance at the plant by 11.9% ($956,000).
